The Arts Management & Creative Industries Minor
The interdisciplinary minor in Arts Management & Creative Industries (AMCI) is a collaborative, cross-school program that brings together coursework from the School of Arts & Sciences, the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, and the Robins School of Business. Designed to complement existing programs in the arts, the minor explores the intersections of creativity, management, leadership, business, and cultural engagement across the creative industries.
Through coursework in arts management, cultural leadership, entrepreneurship, museum and curatorial studies, media production, and the cultural, economic, and ethical dimensions of the arts, students develop both managerial and creative problem-solving skills relevant to careers in the nonprofit, public, and commercial arts sectors. The program emphasizes experiential learning through internships, project-based coursework, and engagement with arts and cultural organizations on and off campus.
The minor is intended for students interested in the performing arts, visual arts, film and media, museums, publishing, music industries, design, and related creative fields. By combining interdisciplinary study with professional application, the AMCI minor prepares students to navigate and lead within the evolving creative industries.
The Arts Management Concentration
Approachable by studio art, art history, music, theatre, and dance majors or minors and provides curricular links for students interested in further practical and academic experiences in the area of arts management. Faculty co-directors are the executive director of the Modlin Center for the Arts and the executive director of the University Museums.
The arts management coordinators may be consulted for additional recommended courses in areas of arts, business, or leadership that support the student's particular area of interest. An arts course in an area other than a student's major or minor is encouraged, and may include applied music study or music ensembles.
