Description

Dances of the African Diaspora include a wide range of global, cultural dance and musical forms created and developed by the descendants of indigenous African people-groups who left or were taken from the continent, in particular, as a result of the trans-Atlantic human trafficking and enslavement of the Colonial period. The course will teach dance and musical forms from the African Diaspora through in-class, studio instruction and participation, demonstrations, and multimedia, revealing the distinctions of global African dance traditions as well as their commonalities as leading cultural identities within countries of the Americas, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula.
