Students will explore perspectives from political science, law, economics, history, the natural sciences, and more. Topics are arranged (first) to introduce key concepts to students from different academic backgrounds; then to examine how actual policies are crafted to meet the complex challenges involved (technical, political, and legal); delve into specific environmental issues from pollution to biodiversity and beyond, emphasizing the “environmental decade” of the 1970s; and finally grapple with climate change, the greatest threat facing civilization today.
