Description

his course examines the structure, regulation, and evolving role of banks and other financial institutions in the U.S. economy. The course explores the architecture of the banking system—from the Federal Reserve System and deposit insurance framework to oversight by an array of financial agencies—and situates that framework within the historical arc of financial crises and reform. Through case studies, students will analyze capital and liquidity regulation, stress testing, governance obligations, and the law of bank resolution, while also considering emerging issues such as private credit, non-bank financial intermediation, stablecoins, and bank merger review. Designed for students interested in financial regulation, corporate governance, and capital markets, the course provides both doctrinal grounding and practical insight into how banking law shapes economic stability, innovation, and systemic risk in a rapidly changing financial landscape.
