An exploration of the rise and fall of the Nazi regime, World War II, and the Holocaust, emphasizing how Hitler’s rise to power impacted politics, economics, society, culture, and everyday life in Germany and across Europe. Topics include: the Nazis’ racial ideology; international conflict, militarism, and warfare; propaganda in film, art, and architecture; the persecution of Jews, Roma and Sinti, Black Germans, LGBTQ people, and disabled people; the role of women under Nazism; postwar justice and memory; and the resurgence of neo-Nazism, Holocaust denial, and far-right extremism today.
